D. Ehrenfest decided to continue his education in Germany and to attend the lectures of the most outstanding mathematicians of the century - Felix Klein and David Hilbert. In Gottingen in 1903, at one of the lectures, he met Tatiana (Tanya) Afanasieva, who had graduated from the famous Bestuzhev Women's Courses in St. Petersburg and had come to Gottingen with the same aim as Ehrenfest. In 1904 the young couple married, and in the autumn of 1906 they came to live in St. Petersburg, Tanya's native city.
